What is Mediation?
Mediation is a structured process in which an impartial person, the mediator, facilitates communication between the parties to promote reconciliation, settlement, or an understanding between them. If the parties reach a mutually acceptable understanding, the mediator guides them in developing a written agreement.

Why Mediate?
Whether initiated by the parties or ordered by the court, mediation is an effective alternative to the confrontational nature and uncertainty of the courtroom.  The mediation process is a solution-driven approach to resolving disputed issues through cooperation and understanding instead of conflict and discord. In most cases, the result is a quicker, less costly, and more satisfactory result for the parties involved.

Meet Our Newest Mediator, Kim Daffin!

Kim Daffin is a Certified Mediator in Texas.  She is a neutral and impartial third-party facilitator skilled in assisting clients through the mediation process as an alternative to time consuming and expensive litigation.  Kim is court-certified and is able to quickly assist parties in reaching informed, voluntary, and enforceable agreements.  She promotes amicable dispute settlements and guides parties in crafting solutions for court-mandated mediation cases, general and commercial disputes, or more complex situations including family and divorce cases.  Kim is a member of the Texas Mediator Credentialing Association (TMCA) and the Texas Association of Mediators (TAM).

Kim has over 35 years of experience working as an executive with Fortune 500 companies specializing in leadership, strategy, conflict resolution, and facilitation (both live and virtual).  She partnered with corporate legal and Employee Relations teams to resolve complex employer/employee disputes from general grievances to wrongful termination claims.  She has experience with worker’s compensation, discrimination, harassment, workplace violence and labor management cases.  Kim has a reputation as a fair and consistent leader who invests in relationships.  She believes listening skills and respect are at the heart of finding common ground and a path forward.

Kim personally experienced divorce in 2005 and credits mediation for significant short and long-term financial savings but more importantly, the ability to effectively co-parent by defining specific responsibilities and creating solutions in advance.  The emphasis on communication, cooperation and respect helped maintain the focus on her children and compromise on both sides helped to navigate decisions as needs changed over time.  Kim has firsthand experience with constructing and living with effective and equitable parenting plans and modifications.  Kim’s desire to provide the same positive experience for others going through a difficult time was one of her major motivators in pursuing mediation as a career.

Kim lives in Houston, Texas and has two adult daughters.  Kim’s eldest daughter lives in Chicago and is a graphic designer.  Her younger daughter works for a non-profit in Austin and will be going to law school in the fall of 2021.  In her free time, she serves as a Girls Inc. of Greater Houston board member and is a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church.
